Renovating your kitchen means more than exploring your cabinetry and countertop options. Although those are two very important parts of any home renovation, we can't forget about lighting- one of the most important aspects of any room in your home.

There are 3 types of lighting integral to kitchen design:

General: Provides basic lighting to the room

Task: Illuminates specific work areas

Accent: Highlights certain areas of the room and can create a focal point

General lighting can be provided with recessed lights, ceiling fixtures, and even chandeliers or pendants over an island. A good source of task lighting is under cabinet lights which illuminate countertops while emphasizing the shape and form of the kitchen. Directional recessed lights can provide accent lighting to highlight a decorative backsplash design over the stove or artwork on display. We suggest using a mixture of all three types of lighting so that light comes from all directions of the room.

Be sure you don’t overlook the quality of the light fixture you choose and how the bulbs will affect the overall atmosphere of your new kitchen. For example, incandescent lights often used in general and accent lighting provide a soft, natural warm light while halogen lights provide more crisp, white light appropriate for task lighting.

If you are thinking of renovating your home and would like to know more and lighting, or any other aspect of your project, don't hesitate to reach out. We can help make your kitchen design cohesive, functional and beautiful- something you will enjoy for years to come!
